For the past 115 years since its founding, National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) has made great contributions to medicine in Taiwan in areas such as academic research, education, and research and development of new technology and innovations in diagnosis and treatment. Our predecessors established NTUH's academic excellence through their enthusiasm, dream and perseverance. This tradition has been passed on to us, and so we should also strive to play the same role. We must continue our predecessor's dream, committing ourselves to the new vision of making NTUH "Guardian of National Health and Role Model of Medical Care". At the same time, while keeping in mind the great responsibility that lies ahead, we furthermore aspire, along with NTUH, to grow stronger in the future.

The foundation for tomorrow comes from today's hard work. Living in this ever changing world, transformation for the better is the only way to adapt to the fast changing external environment in order to carry out our mission of teaching, research and service. The construction of the "Cancer Hospital" is one important structural transformation as we push forward. In addition, this year, The hospital decided to apply for JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation in 2010. Strictly speaking, this is neither transformation nor pioneering work because we will not be the first hospital in Taiwan to be accredited by JCI. However, the JCI accreditation process will be a tough challenge for a large-scale healthcare organization like NTUH. Just like with product quality control, the larger the scale, the more it becomes necessary to have everyone's cooperation and involvement in order to have uniform quality. The challenges are even greater when it comes to healthcare, where patients' lives are at stake.
