A facility founded by the community for the community, Cape Coral Hospital, opened its doors in July 1977 and joined Lee Memorial Health System in 1996. Cape Coral Hospital is a 291 bed acute care facility, with all rooms being private. The hospital also is expanding to become the largest Emergency Department in Lee County, serving more than 55,000 patients annually. About 1,200 employees provide the best possible care to patients at Cape Coral Hospital, which also has a medical staff of more than 600 physicians and a volunteer team more than 1,000 members strong.

Cape Coral Hospital has received many recognitions during its more than three decades in existence, including the 2006 Specialty Excellence Award for General Surgery, Top 100 for Performance Improvement and one of the 100 Top Hospitals in Orthopedics by Thompson Healthcare, an independent firm that annually rates hospitals.
